Purpose Of The Job
Job Summary:
Assist with patient care throughout one or more physician practices; responsible for the safe transport of patients, dispatch services, and appropriate documentation of services. Collect data and transpose information into patient chart. Render limited direct patient care; instruct patients and family members on the care requirements as directed by the attending physician or advanced practice clinician.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
· Prepare patient for examination, procedure, test, and consultation; provide efficient and effective care under the guidance of a physician.
· Assist patients and visitors as requested; ensure questions/concerns are addressed appropriately; receive and report complaints.
· Conduct patient assessments (i.e., record temperature, blood pressure, and pulse) and provide patient information to physician.
· Apply and remove wound care dressings using aseptic techniques under the direction of a physician or advanced practice clinician.
· Transport patients safely as requested or required.
· Aide in patient education and reinforce care practices with patients.
· Call in verbal pharmacy orders.
· Chart patient activities appropriately; ensure all applicable occurrences and information are documented; complete all applicable forms.
· Provide signed surgery/testing orders; follow-up on results and reports.
· Maintain a clean and well stocked clinical area; maintain patient files, medical records, etc. according to established procedures.
· Monitor and maintain the medical & drug supply closet.
· Monitor the surgery/test schedule; notify the appropriate staff; ensure schedule changes are communicated appropriately.
· Prepare patient charts, clinical instruments; patient room, and injections.
· May serve as the first point of contact in the Physician Office; greet patients and guest; direct calls and answer basic questions.
· Other duties as assigned or required.
Qualification Requirements
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or completion of GED equivalent.
Minimum Work Experience:
No experience required. Six (6) months of Medical Assistant (MA) or similar experience in a physician office setting is preferred.
License(s) / Certification(s):
· Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
· Working knowledge of general office equipment (i.e., copy machine, fax, 10-key calculator, etc.).
· General knowledge of the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
· Strong customer service skills and the ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude with patients and guest.
· Basic computer skills and the ability to operate simple to moderately complex software platforms.
· Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
· Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with persons of varying personality types.
· Organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
· Problem solving skills and the ability plan and prioritize work.
· Ability to be detail oriented and accurately document details and actions.
· Ability to maneuver, lift, push, and/or carry patients and/or equipment with limited aide.
· Ability to work effectively in a clinical setting with medical staff.
· Ability to manage change effectively.
· Ability to demonstrate and maintain a compassionate attitude with others.
