Research & Development - Graduate
We are looking for R and D Graduates for a 25th September 2017 start.
Salary - £24,250 p.a.
The Roles
Our Research & Development (R&D) team combines inventiveness with cutting-edge technology to deliver steel products fit for the twenty-first century. Our clients’ needs are constantly evolving so we work in close alliance with them, getting to grips with their businesses and their marketplaces, in order to understand their complex requirements. Our innovative steel products enable them to push the boundaries of what is currently possible, offering the support and technical expertise they need to design new products and create pioneering new applications.
We pride ourselves on our ability to step up to any challenge. From assessing products on an industrial scale to undertaking modelling or simulation studies for prototyping and application development, our state-of-the-art technology and steady investment in our people and infrastructure allows us to enhance and develop the quality and performance of our materials. Yet our focus isn’t just on the end product; we also undertake the manufacturing process data analysis and design projects that enable thinking to develop and new solutions to emerge.
At Tata Steel, we pride ourselves on our world-class products, processes and people. We value individuality and believe that exposing people to genuine challenges on live research projects fosters creativity and allows potential to be fulfilled. You’ll be exposed to real science from the outset and we expect you to relish the opportunity to show us what you’re made of.
The Prospects
As one of the world’s leading steel manufacturers, Tata Steel offers unparalleled opportunities to develop your career. We only employ the best, so you’ll be expected to contribute immediately to live R&D projects in your initial host department. Via a blend of on the-job learning, coaching, mentoring and formal training, you’ll quickly build up a strong understanding of our business whilst developing a career-making skillset.
There’ll be very little hand-holding – you’re encouraged to take early responsibility for your career – but we won’t leave you to it either: a tailor-made Talent Development and Management programme will support you along the way. We want you to understand how R&D fits into and benefits our broader business, so you’ll also complete placements beyond the R&D function. This could be on any one of a multitude of key stakeholder sites, businesses or projects, such as in a manufacturing unit, Technical department, or Business Improvement team. In an organisation of our size, the possibilities are considerable.
The Requirements
You must have at least a 2:2 Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics,
Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science Automotive Engineering or civil/structural engineering.
Driven, passionate and tenacious, your strong sense of personal accountability is bolstered by your eye for the bigger picture. Outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to inspire trust and build engagement are also essential.
As part of a global organisation, it’s vital that you understand and engage with our culture.
We’re passionate about achievement, excellence and breakthrough thinking, and people at every level here have a thirst for developing their knowledge. You’ll embrace change with enthusiasm, take ownership of issues and inspire others towards a culture of innovation.
Wherever your interest or specialism lies, there is a position within the industry that will enable you to develop throughout your career with a diversity you will not find anywhere.
