Job Summary
• To coordinate production teams and promote an environment that challenges the existing process and strives for continues improvement and flexibility.
• To coordinate all aspects of production and improvement projects through excellent communication
• Instrumental in promoting increased skilling of their teams
• Clear communication across shift handovers, ensuring these are adequately documented and actions clearly defined.
• To drive the frontline manufacturing team to achieve 100 % compliance to the production plan, by actively trying to minimise downtime.
• Products are manufactured within allocated areas to quality standards,, in line with area CCP, GMP and H & S and agreed KPI targets.
• To heavily support and coach effective development of operators and Senior operators in their up skilling on their lines.
• Reduce customer complaints and wastage through effective department operations and continuous improvement.

Safety, Quality, Hygiene
• Personally demonstrate safe behaviour and take responsibility for the management of H&S of operations staff and agency workers.
• Undertake accident and near Miss investigations
• Lead a “no acceptance” culture of H&S
• Ensure areas achieve and maintain required GMP standards.
• Lead 5 ‘s optimisation process with team in department.
• Provide training, instruction, guidance and advice to ensure the competence of employees, and ensure that allocated tasks are within their skills, knowledge and ability to perform safely
• Produce product to required specification.
• Ensure that the relevant procedures (work instructions, SOP’s) are understood and followed.
• Reduce customer complaints and wastage through effective operations and continuous improvement.
People Management
• To be responsible for ALL labour on their shift, ensuring good discipline and factory rules are conformed to at all times.
• Take full ownership for maintaining and ensuring t hat staff are coached and trained in all aspects of their role in order to maintain a cross-functional, multi-skilled workforce.
• Manage and motivate Team. Set and monitor targets for teams. Achieve this via regular 1 to 1 meetings with all staff on shift.
• Proactively manage the team to meet daily/weekly production plan demand, raising culture and behavioural values to ensure that the Teams are well placed to respond.
• Manage staff as a first line manager via coaching, regular appraisal (EDR), mentoring, training and leadership by example.
• The role is shift-based leading/supporting line teams from batching to palletisation of finished product.
• Ensure all training is delivered and documented.
• Manage staff via agreed company policies and procedures. Ensure all return to work interviews are completed and actioned upon ,if required, in line with company policies.
• Ensure that the site Discilpine procedure is adhered to.
• Deputise for Shift Manager in their absence, or as assigned to projects
Operations Management
• With Shift Manager, establish clear objectives and priorities for Team to enable them to meet operational targets and review.
• Coordinate teams operational activities and ensure GMP standards are reached.
• Take overall responsibility for a team of operators and support them in maintaining and improving all assets in the department.
• Manage interface of the engineering function into manufacturing during the shift.
• Ensure that the plant and equipment perform to manufacture a product to high quality standard.
• To liaise, assist with training and support other departments in general running of the factory.
• Identify own training needs and with Shift Manager agree a time plan for achieving this.
• ‘Start-up’ of plants ensuring all safe systems at work are adhered to.
• Support any operational problems in their assigned process area, such as breakdowns and material supply issues.
• Ensure that changes to demand / product or ingredients within the programme are implemented and co-ordinated effectively with effective feedback to all effected : materials supplies, customer departments and escalation to Shift Manager.
• Control materials to maintain appropriate stock levels for production run - maintenance of effective stock records (including locations), for pre prepared or WIP materials.
• Ensure that machinery and equipment are prepared and set up appropriately for the relevant recipe/production run and effectively cleaned after completion.
• Adjust machinery and equipment settings where required to prevent breakdowns and ensure production lines run to maximum efficiency.
• Ensure relevant documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner in their assigned process area..
Continuous Improvement
• Lead / Implement continuous improvement activities within departments
• Form cross functional teams to identify and deploy site standard C.I. techniques
• Ensure continuity of the C.I. process – sustain the culture of improvement
• Involved in data gathering, ideation and submission of CAPEX projects
• Resource manage to utilise any uptime/downtime opportunities for value adding activities
Communication
• Conduct Shift briefings to inform staff of Safety, Quality & Performance detailing daily tasks and plans
• Organise and communicate effective shift and product changeovers ensuring all departmental stakeholders are involved and minimal disruption to service, and minimise lost time/cost.
• Communicate and follow any escalation procedures required to minimise business risk
Education, Experience & Capabilities
• A level or better qualification
• Possess a recognised safety qualification
• Computer literate
• Full UK Driving Licence
• 2 Years experience of working in the Food Industry
• Demonstrable track record of performing well in previous role either as a packing or process operator
• Used to working to in a fast moving production environment
• Experience of working in a unionised factory
• Dynamic Decision Maker prepared to take responsibility for decisions
