Role Overview
Amec Foster Wheeler, is looking for a Head of Engineering to join our Oil and Gas project delivery operation with the ability to mobile to any project location when required, with the main base being Aberdeen.
The Head of Engineering role will be primarily based in the Aberdeen Regional office, but will require to be mobile to support the Asset Support Global portfolio to other regional offices and offshore visits as part of the management visit schedule.
Prime Responsibilities:
Drive the engineering teams to deliver the highest standard that fully meets our clients requirements
Ensure engineering is delivered in line with agreed budgets, man-hours and schedules
Ensure engineering is completed in a More4Less manner
Build It, Buy It, Operate it
Ensure engineering is completed in line with construction and commissioning phasing, sequencing and systemisation requirements
Maximise resource utilisation with engineering
Ensure compliance with all mandatory procedures
Drive & develop engineering improvement initiatives and targets
Support delivery and Improvement of AFW Beyond Zero HSSE goals and objectives
Work closely with Project Controls to improve engineering reporting and planning
Provide visible leadership to the Engineering function
Support development opportunities with engineering function
Define and deliver the technical strategy
Execution approach
Resource requirements and expertise
Management and oversight of Aberdeen engineering common operations
Recommend / Agree Project Execution Strategy within “Identify” and “Acquire” phases
Ensure identification and management of project risk
Agree Project Engineering Assurance Plans
Manage and deploy engineering resources across the Project Groups
Drive and manage resource utilisation against agreed targets
Develop and deploy common engineering & technical processes

Work with SCM and develop strategic supplier relationships
Attract, retain, develop and manage engineering & technical talent pools including input into performance reviews and managing career paths
Develop Engineering & technical training requirements and support new training content
Drive Implementation of Workshare Framework
Undertake Project Sponsorship as required
Manage and drive the Project Engineering Managers
Manage and drive the Engineering Discipline Managers
Ensure that all engineering is carried out to the highest standard and meets the clients requirements
Drive delivery of technical assurance plans and associated activities such as audits, monthly reviews, etc.
Ensure compliance with Engineering mandatory procedures and processes
Liaise with the clients engineering teams and contract representatives
Report overall engineering status to Group Project Directors and Asset Support Leadership Team
Remain abreast of legislative requirements
Attend PEER review of project specific estimate and schedule
Maintain and develop current awareness of engineering technologies, codes and standards.
Own and Drive engineering improvements and objectives
Develop the More4 Less toolkit and best engineering practices
Manage Aberdeen Engineering Budget against Overhead allowance
Maximise resource utilisation with staff and learner population
Maximise resource utilisation and working hours for contract population
Work in a collaborative way with the other Regional Head of Engineering
Skills / Qualifications
Qualifications:
UK Bachelors Degree or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject
Chartered Engineer and member of appropriate engineering institution
Post graduate management qualification

Experience:
Professional engineer with substantial experience and expertise in upstream Oil & Gas sector offshore in UK or overseas (although experience in mid or downsteam will also be desriable)
Robust knowledge of engineering design integrity/technical assurance activities
Experienced in project management of EPC or Asset Support contracts
Sound knowledge and previous experience in construction & commissioning phases of projects
Robust client management skills
Knowledge of principal multi-discipline codes of practice and standards
Sound knowledge of statutory documentation relating to engineering
Solid grasp of multi-discipline engineering practices and techniques
Experienced in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting of multi-discipline projects
Experienced in commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of projects and engineering activities
Experienced in leadership, control and supervision of a engineering or project team
Solid grasp of quality control / safety / environmental strategies and objectives
Capable of representing business unit internally and externally at management level
