Lecturer in Sociology
Starting salary: £33,943, rising anually to £37,075
Full Time, Permanent - Academic
The Department of Social Sciences at Oxford Brookes University wishes to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Sociology. As part of an expansion of the Sociology programme, we are seeking applicants in any area of Sociology and whose research and teaching interests complement existing strengths in the Sociology programme. Candidates will teach core and specialist Sociology modules at undergraduate level and will have the opportunity to introduce new modules to the curriculum. The post holder will undertake research leading to high quality publications and possess the qualities and potential to achieve internationally excellent and world leading research.
You will be responsible for:
Teaching students using appropriate instruction methods and setting and assessing
students¿ work. Providing lecturing and seminar support on other modules in Sociology
Supervising and assessing students¿ dissertations
Undertaking research leading to national and international quality publications and seeking
funded research opportunities, supported by senior colleagues
Contributing to curriculum development work including planning, development, evaluation
and updating of courses and course materials
Caring for the pastoral needs of students including counselling, welfare and guidance
You should have:
A PhD in Sociology or closely related discipline, or be near completion
Experience of teaching or demonstrable potential to teach at undergraduate level
Research and teaching interests that complement existing strengths in the Department
A good record of publications relevant to research in Sociology and suitable for inclusion in the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
The ability to work both in a team and independently
Good communication and interpersonal skills
