Job Description
We are looking for a Resident Engineer to handle the daily interface with the customer. As effective Resident Engineer you will reduce the workload of the plant team by filtering and confirming customer requirements and lobbying Tenneco requirements at the customer location in Sindelfingen, Germany.
Key Responsibilities
Will report to a Chief Engineer at Tenneco and will be in daily contact with the Technical Project Leaders based in Hodkovice, Gliwice and in Sint-Truiden and later on the launch team in the new location In Eastern Europe. Will also liaise as and when needed with the Program Manager based in Hodkovice and the Account Manager based in Sint-Truiden
Will represent Tenneco during meetings based within Daimler and set-up Webmeetings to link other Tenneco team members in the meeting if required
Manage and filter information from the customer to provide 2 way updates to Tenneco and to Daimler at least twice a week
Organised and disciplined to plan and attend all required meetings
Should be able to bring over Tenneco needs and conditions in a diplomatic way to ensure Tenneco is not over-committed, whilst offering assistance to Daimler when needed
Must be present during discussions on timing for prototype part delivery, tuning part delivery
Present during key vehicle prototype build reviews to represent Tenneco
Should respect Tenneco timelines and ensure key Tenneco needs are communicated to the customer
Is not expected to make unilateral decisions on design or timing issues unless previously agreed with Tenneco team
Should be prepared to travel internationally at short notice. Especially if urgent parts are required at Daimler
Regular travels to the related Tenneco locations (Gliwice, Hodkovice or Belgium) for Training, Project meetings and integration into the team will be required – for sure during start-up period
Must be contactable at all times, regardless of whether present within Daimler. A mobile phone contact number is essential
Act as prime contact and take Initial counter measure for defective products. Lead a corrective action working with prototype and production facilities
Understand customer drawings and Tenneco drawings in order to assess impact on Tenneco to meeting changing customer. Resolve requirement issues directly with customer engineers and act as project design interface
Understand and respect customer timing and ensure Tenneco project team is aligned with latest milestones
Support commercial questions from customer by passing information directly to Tenneco Account Manager or Program Manager.
Required Skills
Education
Honours degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering background preferred)
Work experience
7 years plus engineering work experience in related field or Advanced Degree with minimum of 5 years engineering work experience
Ideally experience of employment by Daimler or previous contracting work on Daimler sites is desired
Skills
Knowledge of automotive chassis design and/or shock absorbers would be a strong benefit. Knowledge/Experience in manufacturing engineering would be useful
Clear knowledge of automotive program management principles (APQP process) including all normal phases
Should enjoy and be motivated by a challenging and dynamic environment. Must be flexible with priority on meeting deadlines
Should be self-starting and self sufficient in character to build their daily work structure based around key milestones and needs from Tenneco and Daimler
Fluent in spoken and written German and English and must be able to communicate clearly and concisely
Familiar with MS Office and MS project
