POSITION SUMMARY
Support the implementation of Clean Air supplier development strategies to significantly improve TENNECO global supply base, including SBU support in case of critical supplier quality and delivery issues in order to ensure the continuity of good quality product supply to our Tenneco customers. Further responsibilities include On-site supplier development, helping with identification and development of suppliers, implementing quality and productivity improvement initiatives at existing suppliers, and deploying standardized supplier quality management systems throughout TENNECO Clean Air Europe.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Tenneco manufacturing plants and businesses on major critical quality and supplier issues. On site supplier problem solving (8D) support, containment set-up or production monitoring on a need-to-support basis.
Ensure timely implementation of permanent corrective actions and resolution.
Support the implementation of the Purchasing Supplier Development strategies and initiatives to help improve global supply base for all commodities. Prepare and provide reports for management review.
Conduct On-site supplier development activities to help key suppliers improve their processes and achieve productivity and quality performance goals using tools such as VA/VE, Six Sigma, Lean management practices, Best Practice technology, Risk assessment, Manufacturability review, APQP etc.
Conduct supplier assessments and evaluations. Follow-up on improvements as required. Report new launch regional supplier performance to the project team.
Drive supplier quality and productivity improvements. Conduct supplier quality audits as required. Review supplier’s manufacturing processes and costs and prepare recommendations to effect cost reductions. Follow up with implementation of valid cost reduction ideas.
Assess supplier’s manufacturing capabilities, available capacity, manufacturing processes, technology and quality procedures. Provide supplier technical assistance to commodity teams as and when required. Participate in supplier market analysis for various commodities.
Support global purchasing needs during supplier transitions and supplier rationalization program. Support interface between suppliers and the purchasing commodity teams to help new supplier launches.
Required Skills
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
B.S. Degree in a related Business or Technical discipline; or equivalent experience.
Demonstrate maturity to represent Tenneco’s interest versus the supplier’s management teams during crisis situations.
Ability/flexibility to travel internationally, as/when required, up to 60% of the time.
Demonstrated ability and skills to support supplier development activities, working knowledge of continuous improvement initiatives and quality management tools.
Demonstrated ability and skills to convince even in other languages and cultures.
Strong team player with demonstrated ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written in English.
Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications.
Familiar with methodologies like 6 sigma & Lean manufacturing.
Familiar with a range of materials and processes; e.g., steel, stamping, forging, machining, casting, cold heading, electromechanical, software, etc.
