Job Description
SAP SD Consultant - Project Manager
1/07/2016
Your job
We – Delaware Consulting and SAP Gold Partner – are seeking a highly motivated SAP SD Consultant. If you can see yourself taking care of the entire SD aspect of a SAP project and also, more broadly, leading a complete SAP project, then we’d love to hear from you.
What will you be working on as SAP SD Consultant at Delaware?
Our projects usually entail the following phases:
The analysis phase, in which we get to know the customer, their reality and their needs as thoroughly as possible.
We translate those needs, in continuous consultation with the customer in various workshops, during the blueprinting phase. How can the business processes be mapped into SAP? Which options should/shouldn’t be activated? How do we plan to implement this? What will this require in terms of time and resources? Is everything available ‘out-of-the-box’, or will custom development also be necessary?
The system is configured in the customizing phase.
The documentation and training phase is when the necessary documentation is drawn up; the training material is prepared for the key users and they are subsequently trained. The key users then participate in an extensive test phase, during which we supervise and support them as needed.
We follow this up with the go live phase, which is always a little tense.
During the support phase, which is the first few weeks after launch, your project team continues to provide direct support before gradually handing over to a support team.
As project leader you maintain oversight – the helicopter view – over the entire process.
You estimate the requirements in terms of time and resources and you ensure that everything is completed on schedule. This is less of a hands-on role, although you will certainly still be actively involved, especially for the aspects where your expertise can make the biggest contribution. But above all you are the project manager who keeps a tight rein on the overall project and hence who also manages the consultants from other modules and ensures that we deliver a cohesive end result.
You’re involved in the projects from start to finish so you can expect plenty of variety in your role.
You work on a broad spectrum of SAP SD projects, involving both ‘greenfield’ implementations (SAP system installed for the first time) and conversion projects (updates or amendments to an existing system).
We always work on projects in close cooperation with our customers. One thing’s for sure: we’re extremely customer-oriented! So you can expect to spend at least 60 to 70% of your time working client-side, mainly in Flanders or Brussels. Being so close to customers ensures that we can adapt and double-check things quickly.
You’re also the main point of contact for the project on behalf of the customer. Successful implementation depends on a good understanding of and relationship with the customer, so you also have a certain amount of commercial flair. In other words, you’re able to communicate the situation to the customer in a way that they can understand, while always taking their needs into account. But don’t worry, we don’t expect you to fulfill a sales role!
When not working client-side, you’re welcome to work out of one of our offices in Antwerp, Ghent, Kortrijk or Waver. After all, it’s important that you get to know your Delaware colleagues too.
Your profile
If the profile below sounds like you, then we’d like to get to know you better:
You have 7 to 8 (or more) years’ professional experience as an IT Consultant including at least 2 to 3 years of experience within SAP SD. So you have reached a solid level of maturity.
Perhaps you’ve gained your SAP SD expertise in a permanent hands-on role as an employee within a specific company. If so, and if you’re interested in making the switch to consultancy, you should definitely contact us.
The SAP ERP system and hence SAP SD itself is evolving all the time. If you’ve already had a taste of S/4 HANA – and if you can also help customers to make the transition – then that would be a huge advantage!
You’ve got significant experience of leading (smaller) projects
And you’re keen to grow into an excellent project manager. We don’t really mind whether your initial project management experience is based on one of the certified methodologies or not. We use our own methodology, so for us the most important thing is that you’re hands-on and that you know how to take control of, organize, structure and complete projects correctly.
You succeed in understanding the business and logistics needs and processes of many different customers from many different sectors, and you can translate those needs into the rightanalysis / configuration / implementation / documentation / training.
You also have functional knowledge of other SAP modules and, within the SD module, can accurately estimate what kind of custom-development activities will be necessary. So you can happily join your colleagues from e.g. ABAP in discussions on an equal footing.
You find it easy to bridge the gaps to other SAP (supply chain) domains and hence to other teams within Delaware Consulting as the basis for smooth and constructive collaboration.
As well as the necessary hard skills, you also have well-developed soft skills: you’re a good communicator and listener and you’re able to sum up situations clearly, not only for customers but also for members of the project team. And you can even fulfill a coaching role for your team members if necessary.
You speak Dutch and English fluently, and proficiency in French is an advantage!
You’re made of the right stuff for Delaware Consulting: you combine 1) drive and commitment (both to the customer in terms of project delivery, and also to Delaware in terms of engagement within the organization) with 2) a pragmatic approach (you don’t dogmatically cling to principles or theories, but instead opt for a hands-on approach which you adapt flexibly to the relevant situation).
Our offering
We firmly believe that Delaware is a great place to work. What do we offer you?
Ample opportunities for further development as a project lead in SAP SD and more broadly as a project manager. As SAP Gold Partner we have maximum commitment to all the evolutions within SAP.
A whole host of extra internal and external training opportunities
A coach who will help you shape your own career.
A bright future within a solid company with plenty of career prospects: Delaware Consulting employs more than 770 people in Belgium (plus hundreds more abroad) and we’re still growing strongly.
The possibility to work internationally.
An attractive company culture with regular team meetings and team-building activities. We’re guided by our company values: we take care of our employees and customers, we are committed, enterprising and respectful, and we do everything based on a sense of team spirit.
And needless to say, you can expect a competitive package of salary and benefits.
