The Converter Electrical & High Voltage department is part of Vestas R&D organization Power Solutions. The department is an essential contributor in making the current and future wind turbines more efficient and cost effective by developing the electrical power conversion components as power stack (power electronics), transformer and switchgear. This is done by being responsible for development and maintenance of the components according to the full value chain requirements. All Vestas products are based on internally developed converters since electrical power conversion is at the core of how a wind turbine performs, operates and interacts with the electrical grid. The daily work will be within a broad network of stakeholders and together with the electrical specialists you will set the standard for tomorrows design. You will be a part of the power electronic team within the Converter Electrical & High Voltage department. The department consists of 20 highly skilled designers and specialists located in Aarhus. Responsibilities As Power Engineer in Converters, you will be a part of the Converter Electrical team and report to the Converter Electrical & High Voltage Manager within Electrical Engineering. Your main responsibilities and tasks will be: Industrial low-voltage (medium-voltage) distribution systems. Main circuit & secondary automation. Serial product development / specific delivery projects, including: Drive and lead overall electrical design concepts together with relevant engineers and suppliers. Establishment of requirement specification & stakeholder interests Evaluation of architecture Analysis & simulation Main circuit electro-mechanical and thermal design Component & supplier selection Reliability analysis; Quality assurance; Field failure analysis Verification through test and analysis Documentation Specific knowledge of: Main circuit components: current interruption, relays, busbars, insulators, sensors. Earthing schemes; protection and selectivity; insulation coordination; fault handling. Design for harsh environments. International design standards. Calculation methods e.g. load flow and short circuit calculation; simulation tools; type testing. Further: Concise communication in English Formulation of tasks and delegation to colleagues and consultants/contractors Review and assure quality in colleagues’ work Other characteristics for functional leadership Qualifications Your qualifications include: A bachelor in a relevant area, i.e. electrical engineering, AP Graduate in Service Engineering, Marine Engineering ( 8 years in electrical distribution system design) Experience from power cabinet design including bus bar and circuit breaker specification. Experience in working with test and verification of electrical cabinets. Product development for volume manufacturing. Track record from supplier of industrial power distribution, marine, offshore, or similar.
