Engineering, Technical department is responsible for project definition, validation and execution. Projects are related to EHS, Reliability and value improvement.
Job Purpose & Responsibilities
SABIC in Bergen op Zoom produces over 200 kton/y of polymer granulate through extrusion of raw materials.
The extruders that are used for polymer processing are heated using external heating elements. Product quality and process control are affected by malfunctioning of these elements. The high wear pattern of the heaters leads to significant maintenance cost from parts replacement and short revision intervals.
During the internship the candidate will liaise with the engineering, maintenance and reliability department to collect information, setup measurements and perform testing to achieve the projects goals.
Goals of the internship are to:
Identify the fatigue mechanisms that cause malfunctioning of the heating elements.
- Model the wear pattern for status quo and define current maintenance interval related to production performance.
Validate alternatives to prevent/reduce wear based on testing and statistical analysis.
Define process design optimizations that enable cost reduction.
Perform a feasibility study on the identified alternatives to assess the opportunities on cost reduction.

End year project or learning internship
Requirements
Fluent in Dutch and English.
Candidate should have sound analytical skills, be motivated to work within a multidisciplinary environment and should take initiative.
Bachelor or Master in Mechanical engineering, Process engineering or Material sciences
